Model description
🧠 Model Overview
Large Bonk Model (LBM‑1B) is a 1 billion‑parameter causal decoder-only transformer, designed for the BonkFun ecosystem: meme creations, crypto-tooling, smart contracts, and community fun. Its architecture and training strategy draw inspiration from proven models like Falcon‑RW‑1B, Meta LLaMA 3.2 (1B), and StarCoderBase‑1B.
Key Inspirations: • Falcon‑RW‑1B: A sleek 1 B model trained on 350 B tokens with FlashAttention, ALiBi, AdamW optimizer, bfloat16 precision, and causal next-token prediction . • Meta LLaMA 3.2 1B: Multilingual instruction-tuned, trained on 1.23 B tokens via knowledge distillation, achieving performance comparable to 3 B–level through distilled logits . • StarCoderBase‑1B: A code-oriented 1 B model trained on 1 T tokens — ideal for our code/meme generation goals .
⸻
📚 Training Procedure
Our LBM‑1B training pipeline, mirrored from these models, is structured as follows:
Data Collection • We assembled a curated dataset (~300 B tokens) that blends: • Web text (Reddit, blogs, tech forums) • Smart-contract code (Solidity, Rust) • Meme captions (crypto culture) • Public code (GitHub, permissive licenses)
Tokenization • SentencePiece unigram tokenizer (~128 K vocab) — typical of LLaMA‑style models.
Training Setup • Architecture: ~1 B params, 24–32 transformer layers, multi-head self‑attention, similar hidden/intermediate sizes to Meta LLaMA 3.2. • Precision: bfloat16. • Hardware: 32× A100 GPUs with ZeRO/data parallelism. • Optimizer: AdamW, LR 2e‑4 with warm-up and cosine decay (same as Falcon-RW-1B). • Batching: micro-batch size 4 + gradient accumulation to simulate batch size ~512. • Objective: standard causal LM (predict next token) with bfloat16 compute, FlashAttention & ALiBi positional biases.
Distillation • Optionally used “teacher model” supervision: larger LLaMA‑8B logits to improve learning efficiency — distilled step similar to LLaMA 3.2’s use of LLaMA 3.1 8B .
Training Duration • ~350 B tokens processed over ~10 days on 32 A100 GPUs — comparable to Falcon‑RW‑1B’s 350 B tokens/32 A100s strategy .
Evaluation & Benchmarking • Benchmarked on MMLU, Hellaswag, codegen tasks, meme-caption perfor‑mance. • Achieved ~25 % on MMLU and strong code generation—comparable with StarCoderBase‑1B .
